Due to continued growth, Fishbone Solutions are looking to strengthen their established team to deliver new and existing programmes. We are seeking an experienced Project Manager/Project Engineer to lead the delivery of contracts with our expanding clientele, particularly within the UK rail sector.
As a Project Manager you will work on the delivery of projects to the client providing expert advice directly to the client and their representatives. You will be required to manage the delivery of your own work to meet customer expectations and will be able to work autonomously including dissemination of critical issues for escalation. You will also be required to manage and coordinate others within the Fishbone Solutions team who are also providing services to the client as part of being the focal point for Fishbone to its client.
Responsibilities / Accountabilities
- Review, analyse and integrate plans across multiple functions/organisations to determine programme/project critical path and any risks associated with programme slippages.
- Work closely with clients to understand their needs to develop a plan for delivering the desired outcomes for each project.
- Ensure scope of work is clearly defined, documented and understood by all parties and that timescales and budgets are clearly monitored and reported.
- Assess and manage risks within complex changes of a major rail programme.
- Work as an individual and as part of a team to lead and deliver specific work packages to time, cost, scope and quality.
- Deliver progress updates at milestone reviews to key UK railway infrastructure stakeholders.
- Manage multiple stakeholders across all sectors of the UK Railway to ensure risk and readiness process is delivered to time, quality and budget.
- Ensure overall client satisfaction targets are met throughout the project lifecycle.
- Fulfil adhoc requests from clients requiring support which reasonably fall within the contractual terms or agree, submit and manage variations to the satisfaction of all parties.
- Support the bidding process to deliver proposals including specifying clear cost and resource requirements as well as scheduling which aligns with other business deliverables.
- Ability to carry out Project Management duties in managing aspects of a project both with a single person or as a multi discipline team across a larger project.

Role specific Technical expertise and skills
The project we are looking to recruit for requires a set of specialist rail experience, please find this outlined below:-
- Knowledge of an integrated railway preferably in passenger rail within the UK.
- Experience of new fleet introduction or management of an operational railway is critical.
- Integrated systems level knowledge of core railway technology in rolling stock and on infrastructure.
- Understanding of operational processes and procedures and experience either working within or feeding into these areas.
- Detailed and working understanding of risk, opportunity and change management processes and techniques to support implementation and ongoing proactive management.
- Ability to identify technical, commercial and programme impacts against both risk and change.
- Capability to develop and assess plans through identification of interdependencies and the performance of critical programme analysis to understand key deliverables which may sit outside the critical path.
- Possess strong stakeholder and people management skills which can be employed to convince reluctant parties of the value-added nature of any activity.
- Tenacity and confidence in challenging and chasing stakeholders for information and to resolve issues.
- Experience of authorisation and approval processes across safety, compatibility, legislative and technical fields.
- Ability to manage interfaces and mediate between stakeholders to ensuring collaborative working practices.
- Be proactive in looking for answers
- Be capable of breaking down programmes into logical elements and helping determine short term, medium and long term focus.
General PM / Technical expertise and skills
- PM qualification from recognised body, preferably APM or PMI
- Strong skills in Excel and other analytical packages is a must.
- Fluent report writing including technical reports.
- Confident at presenting ideas and concepts to senior level audiences.
- Knowledge of Power BI and data analysis is desirable.
Qualifications
- Engineering Degree qualified is preferred but demonstration of relevant equivalent experience over time will also be considered.
